H.I.M. Become HER
July 16, 2002In the "we-are-not-kidding" department: Finland's H.I.M. (which stands for HIS INFERNAL MAJESTY) recently serviced their European smash single, "Join Me", to US stations under the group moniker HER after they were threatened with legal action by a band from Chicago who registered the HIM name in the US. The Illinois-based act's mainman, Doug Sharin, appears to be particularly irked by the existence of the Finnish act, going as far as to state in a recent interview that "I'm about to get embattled with the evil HIM — from Finland. They're sort of a death metal band, but it's a little more glam — they have songs like 'Love Affair 666' and 'Join Me In Death' and all this shit. And they're apparently really big in Germany. Their HIM stands for HIS INFERNAL MAJESTY. I'm seriously opposed to it, man, and as far as I can make out, we had the name first."
According to H.I.M.'s official web site, "the 'evil HIM' have registered the name in Europe, and Sharin & co. won't be able to tour or release records [on the European continent] unless they change their attitude."
